    newbie

    Hello,

I am new to Ubuntu. I am mostly an end user but decided to try Ubuntu after a friend of mine raved about it.

well now I have issues and not the skill to solve the problem. What is an "[ 6138-205400] end_request: I/0 error, dev sda, sector 142342184" ? How do I solve this problem/ thanks in advance.

Oh my computer slows down and the screen freezes. The icons for applications turn in to red "x"s.

i really dont know whats going on, but after seeing the words "sda" and "sector blablabla" and "I/O error", i bet it has something to do with the harddrive and/or your installation..

    do u have ur specs?

    Wink

Your harddisk got bad sector. you cant solve that, or there is no easy method to solve it for a newbie. Try installing on another partition/disk, then check for the bad sectors on the partion of the disk using badblocks.
then create a filesystem using mkfs using -l option, doing this on live ubuntu disk and installing it will be tricky. so suggest you to install it first natively on a another disk/partition

    EDIT:
