Hoping to become infected
New to the forum and completely new to Linux. I've toyed with the idea for some time but in the end have been forced to look into it. It feels completely foreign and unfriendly but there are so many of you enthusiasts that I will hang around for long enough to become infected. So looking forward to your germs (not viruses) blowing my way. I live in the Belgian Ardennes. With nternet I'm your next door neighbour

welcome...and an ironic choice of words..." infected" is the reason I'm a linux used now; i had a trashed dell laptop with many viruses, and it would just go bonkers when you booted it, I got most of it cleaned up, but one would not die, and I didnt have the discs to re-install windas xp- thank god- my choice was 1. pay $ 100 for a copy of new windas xp, or 2. pay $ 12 for linux forum magazine that had a disc with xubuntu on it. I never looked back.

Linux tutorial book
Can you suggest a good Linux tutorial book. Before I became a Mom, I was an analyst/programmer in COBOL, Basic, RPL, RPG, etc... this should reveal my age range. So it should not be too difficult to go back to coding. I'm mentioning this so that you can advise on a tutorial that does not assume complete ignorance of coding. I intend to train one of my sons too.

Actually, the link in roky's signature might point you in the right direction.
It points to a thread here on the forum that is about just that!
