The worst release ever
Why,
I've moved from KDE4 to XFce, and I like it very much. It is as good as KDE was before the 4 series. Still, I must admit that this release is a great disappointment for me:
1. Huge number of not working programs, especially the games are broken
2. The urpmi is constantly updating itself so I found impossible to install programs untill I kill uncontrolled process manually. If you need a CD/DVD catalogizer, give a try to my program:

- 05-10-2009 #2I had this issue bkac with 2008.1. The entire way Mandriva handles package management drives me up the wall. Big part of why I stopped using it.2. The urpmi is constantly updating itself so I found impossible to install programs untill I kill uncontrolled process manually.

What does Urpmi have to do with Xfce? Maybe this should be a Distro rant instead of an Xfce/KDE rant.
I do not respond to private messages asking for Linux help, Please keep it on the forums only.

You're absolutely right, I don't know how this topic came here. I wanted to cry out my valuation of Mandriva. The 2008.1 was so stable, and now even in Xfce there are crashes! And it happens that F4 becomes jammed, and it presses itself automatically. It's simply terrific! Why did they release such an unstable version, I can't understand.

>_< I never had such problem with XFCE..
but our opinion on KDE is same though...specailly KDE naming scheme for software is so annoying..too much 'K's
but my experince with KDE is not that bad.
and about urpmi, you can set the update notifier not to run every 5 minutes or daily.
There must be something terribly wrong with your implementation.

With Xfce:
I need keyboard layout switcher. I found it among the applets and have added to the panel. Yet, each time I start-up the system, it crashes, and the key combination would not react at all.
Im not able to set Skype running upon startup, though Im saving my session regulary.
I wonder if theres any decent DE with this release? If you need a CD/DVD catalogizer, give a try to my program:

If you are talking about Mandriva, There is gnome edition to. Its not defaulted to XFCE. If you want to enjoy XFCE without hazzles Try using distro defaulted to XFCE, like Xubuntu/Linux Mint 6/Dream Linux/Zenwalk/KateOS

I would try out a distro with XFCE which would run without issues. In Mandriva's Xfce the only trouble is with the xfce-xkb-plugin, that crashes each time upon startup. Is it working O.K. in Xubuntu?
I have different kind of feelings about the Linux. I think 2009 will not be the year of Linux, first of all because of the state of KDE4, and the programs connected with it. This is a year of great regressions, and you know there is no excuse for the "wait until next release" philosophy, its like waiting for Godot, and when it finally seems, something is going to be stabilized, lets start something new. People should have said: "O.K. guys, KDE4 is not ready yet, keep up with KDE3"If you need a CD/DVD catalogizer, give a try to my program:

I know you are angry...but cool down..try some Yoga.

Yes, It does, I would show you something in my language but only english is allowed on forums
How do you say...
There is not just KDE and Gnome in the pool...I give try to almost every desktop environment. I can say my Linux desktop more than 'almost' fulfill my every need of functionality ( even games )
The developers of KDE are not kids. if KDE is loosing its grip on road. I hope they will improve it. I'm just waiting for that.
This is Open Source software's world. KDE will always have a chance for come back. ( Though its not that failed one ), There is always space for some improvement.
