there was a unix server i heard about that had ran for several years without shutting down main reason THEY COULDNT FIND IT. they could see it on thier network but couldnt actually find its physical location. turns out after chasing cat 5 wiring they found it behind a bricked up wall. masons inadvertantly bricked the server up behind a wall and the server was running all that time. this was at a university somewhere. i thought it was kinda funny. it ran all that time with no reboot.

Says something about reliablility doesn't it.?

Uptime on my Win2000 Pro was 14 days, 6 hours, 36 minutes. Then win explorer crashed and couldnt get it started again - so had 2 reboot.
on Linux it was 112 days 14 hours, 9 minutes.
On BSD 5.2 its 124 days 1 hours, 6 minutes.

On no load - just leave them idle all day all night.

Mandrake 9.2 being used as a DHCP/DNS/apache server (used to be a Windows domain controller too):

The last time it went down was for a kernel update.
There are two major products that come out of Berkeley: LSD and UNIX. We don't believe this to be a coincidence.
