Cool Kernel 2.6.30 runs VERY fast!!

Check this post at phoronix. It has many benchmarks comparing Ubuntu 9.04 vs 9.10 Alpha 1. Ubuntu 9.10 Alpha 1 uses the 2.6.30 kernel and the results are amazing!!! The nasty SQLite regression is finally fixed and the I/O speed has increased as well. And remember that Ubuntu is in its first Alpha!!!! This means that the new kernel can go even faster, which is great news for all distros.

I hope they 'll manage to fix the Intel video driver as well...

That sounds great. I love the benchmark stuff on Phoronix, and they're pretty much my main source for Wayland/Plymouth/KMS news. I hope nVidia support KMS in time for 9.10.

I agree about phoronix. They are the only hardware site that I read every article on.

Uhh, what's KMS, I missed something.
Nice link, L4Linux, sounds pretty promising. What is wrong with the Intel Video driver? I used the i810 for the longest time, no problems.

KMS is kernel mode setting. Long story short, no more flickering during boot or switch to VTs and your driver can run without root permissions.

In combination with the Plymouth project you can also get some cool boot animations
