Help! Sourceforge has completely defeated me
Some of you may remember the barbarella buttonbar which I wrote last year. I have now enlarged the package to include a disk mounting tool and a trash can. Basically it has become a small desktop furniture set suitable for any simple wm-based desktop.
But can I get it released? Grrrr! I've spent well over an hour trying to navigate the Sourceforge site, where I have the first version up, and all I've succeeded in doing is to completely mess up the project pages. I dare say it's an excellent site for the experienced developer but it's quite impenetrable for an amateur who just wants to make a package available to anyone who might find it useful.
Unless someone here can help me, barbarella 2 will never see the light of day."I'm just a little old lady; don't try to dazzle me with jargon!"

Hi there Hazel,
I'm not able to help with the SF system, sorry... but I wanted to ask a question if I could.
Why would you opt to not release your script/app if it's not on SF? I consciously decided to release my FOSS scripts outside of SF. Millions of apps(both good and bad) have cluttered the interweb without the horsepower of SF behind them.
just curious,

I tested off the charts for MENSA. Unfortunately, it was off the wrong end of the chart.

Well, it's simple. I don't have a personal web page where I can put these things up. I used to have one with UKLinux when I was on dial-up, but when I went over to broadband they transferred me to another company called Entanet and I don't seem to have access to UKLinux's ftp server any more (or their smtp server either for that matter though that's another story).
I know there are lots of places that host web pages but they usually charge for it and I don't use either plastic money or paypal (don't trust 'em!). Remember, I'm old, stuck-in-the-mud and not very internet-savvy. I like programming but that doesn't make me a web expert. So SF seemed like the way to go. Seems I was wrong about that anyway."I'm just a little old lady; don't try to dazzle me with jargon!"

Hi there Hazel,
If you need a place to store your scripts or apps, I would be more than happy to help you out in that regard. Same goes for needing a web space to point to it.
thanks,

Hazel, if all else fails, you can always consider using Google Code:
Google Code
It might be easier to get it all going your way.
Hope you get it all worked out, either way.oz

Everyone is being very sweet! The business with Sourceforge was humiliating but I feel ever so much better now!
Elija has offered to host Barbarella on his site and I have accepted his offer. When it's up and running, I'll post a link in this forum. In the mean time, thanks to everyone."I'm just a little old lady; don't try to dazzle me with jargon!"

My new blog. It's probably not as good as I think it is.

Nice to hear Elija offered to host your project

I would also suggest you to upload in sourceforge for better reach (not an offence for Elija' site
)
I hope you remember steps in this thread,
http://www.linuxforums.org/forum/cof...urceforge.html
Two months back , I uploaded my project there...It was ok with me....now they changed the site design..... try this
Login->Click on Account -->choose your project
Project Admin -> Downloads
Enter package name in "New Package Name:" text box.
and click on "create this package"
Now choose your newly created release from the list.
and click add release,
I guess from here you can manage it ,if you stuck somewhere post here.- Lakshmipathi.G

Well, it's definitely up on Elija's Fifth Continent. You can find the link here. Please feel free to play with it. I've also followed Lakshmipathi's detailed instructions for Sourceforge (so much better than anything they provide) and I think I may have it up there too now. I'm not sure because when you look at the download page, version 2 seems to be there on the download button, but whenever I try to edit the text to bring it up to date, it asks for a file to link to and then only shows me version 1.
Why do they have to make everything so complicated? Do they enjoy making poor amateurs like me feel stupid and incompetent?"I'm just a little old lady; don't try to dazzle me with jargon!"
