    That depends entirely on you. If you're into simplicity or were a fan of the old WinAmp application, consider XMMS or Beep Media Player. If you're more of the new-school iTunes crowd you might consider Rhythmbox, Banshee, Songbird, or AmaroK. If you're a console cowboy there's good old mpg123.

    Hi techieMoe,

    Thanks for your advice.

    I'm looking for a simple package available on repo to play MP3 music files and message/speech recording.

    Hi imranka,

    Whether you meant following packages:-

    $ apt-cache search moc
    Code:
    ....
    moc - ncurses based console audio player
    moc-ffmpeg-plugin - ncurses based console audio player - ffmpeg plugin
    ....
    Shall I install both of them? TIA

    This one will do if you already have ffmpeg installed, otherwise try the next one. I installed it from the source not through apt-get, but you can choose to use apt-get, no problem.

    Hi imranka,

    $ apt-cache policy ffmpeg
    Code:
    ffmpeg:
      Installed: (none)
      Candidate: 3:0.cvs20070307-5ubuntu7.3
      Version table:
         3:0.cvs20070307-5ubuntu7.3 0
            500 http://hk.archive.ubuntu.com hardy-updates/universe Packages
            500 http://security.ubuntu.com hardy-security/universe Packages
         3:0.cvs20070307-5ubuntu7 0
            500 http://hk.archive.ubuntu.com hardy/universe Packages
    Not installed yet. So I'll install "moc-ffmpeg-plugin"

    Thanks
