First thing, if you don't have a copy of Red Hat, get one, or get CentOS, which is basically a free (as in beer) rebranding of Red Hat.

There are many many websites with help on the basics of linux. I'd start looking for info on basic linux administration, file systems, organization, and permissions.

And you've already found a great place to ask questions when things get confusing. There are some very smart and friendly people here who are only to happy to help.

You will not believe how much Dos will help you - but on commandline there are so many similarities.

Welcome. I was attracted to linux because the command line reminds me of DOS. Linux is very flexible compared to some OS' that will remain nameless.(some things are better left unsaid)
