Thanks for the reminder. I just fired up BitTorrent and started downloading both the LiveCD and the DVD. I don't want to overload their servers.

The torrent just finished and I'm running it from a live usb right now. (The GNOME version.)

    First impressions:
Outside of a new wallpaper, it looks exactly like Fedora 10. Not necessarily a bad thing, since the Fedora default look is pretty good. The Ubuntu 9.04 default metacity theme and login window is nicer, I think, but the wallpaper is nicer in Fedora.

My Intel 965GM graphics card works properly! That's great, since I was having the ubiquitous Intel trouble with the recent drivers and xorg in Arch. KMS and GEM seem to be working fine here though. This is a huge plus.

No mono apps by default! I personally applaud that decision. But no gnote to replace tomboy.

    Now the not so good:
For some reason, I can't connect to my WPA encrypted network. Didn't try with WEP, and I've momentarily turned off the encryption.

I don't know why distros don't change the default nautilus behavior to "always open in browser window" rather than the obnoxious, irritating spatial browser mode, or whatever it's called. Does anyone prefer the default setting?

There is no option in nautilus to open the location in a terminal. This is something I use a lot, and I'd like to see more distros include it by default. But I guess it's not considered user friendly? I don't know.

OpenOffice is not installed, nor any spreadsheet app. Only abiword. OpenOffice is huge, so I understand wanting to save space, but it seems like gnumeric should at least be installed as well.

The Add/Remove Software app was very slow on first start up. I assume it was refreshing the repos, but it didn't give any indication what was taking so long. After that it loaded quickly and seemed to work well.

As usual, Fedora doesn't support flash, mp3, or DVDs out of the box. I was under the impression it would prompt to download the appropriate software to enable playback, or at least tell you which packages you need, but it didn't do that. It only popped up with a note saying I needed an encoder for playback. Not a big concern for someone with a little experience, but seems like it would be frustrating for new folk. I know this is available through rpmfusion, but the Fedora website did not obviously direct me to the right place.

Overall, it seems like it's going to be a solid release, but nothing that would compel me to switch. Of course, I've only been using it for a few minutes, so that's just a first impression.
