nopycckn mentioned Dracula: I happened to really love this book, but I'm not sure I would call it horror so much. I rather like the writing style though, and it's interesting to see how everything was changed in later vampire stories (for instance, Dracula can in fact walk around during the day, and the most powerful weapon against him is a communion wafer, which has all but vanished in most vampire tales).
I read Interview with a Vampire by Anne Rice, which was enjoyable, but I think she's gotten a little too crazy these days to be taken seriously.DISTRO=Arch

Though I never read book ,I really liked Dracula (TV serial) during my school days.
and the movie Evil Dead really scared for me for days.
In those days , there was a competition about evil dead (or is it omen?
) movie (don't know whether its true or not) ...the challenge is to watch the movie alone.
a guy tried to watch the movie alone but died soon after the movie
But now a days , When i watch evil dead,it's scary as it was earlier

This is true; these days it seems fashionable to make vampires... more fashionable (*ahem* Twilight), and it really takes away from the older legends IMO. Regarding the communion wafer: in Stephen King's vampire novel Salem's Lot, there's a scene where a priest faces a master vampire with just a blessed cross, but when he starts to have doubts that it alone would protect him it fades.
The vampire says (and I'm paraphrasing here) "Oh, but only if you had TRUE faith. That would be quite a battle!" He implies that a true believer wouldn't need holy trinkets and could stand against a vampire on faith alone. I think that's a fascinating idea that I wish more vampire stories explored.
I thought at some point she'd given up the gothic stories and found religion? Is that still the case?I read Interview with a Vampire by Anne Rice, which was enjoyable, but I think she's gotten a little too crazy these days to be taken seriously.Registered Linux user #270181

I only watched the second Evil Dead, and it was funny.
