Well it's been a couple of months and.....

I really love Linux now. I had a hdd I pulled out of a laptop that i thought was toast or more specifically the graphics card. Well I put Ubuntu 8.10 on there and got used to it a little bit and made my wife use it! I never showed her how to get to windows from grub anyway after about 2 or three months she got used to it and saw the speed and reliabillity that it has. She started using Mozilla and at first she did not like it. Well she started getting used to that too!! The other day she was on the laptop that has windows and she opens up the internet with Mozilla instead of IE!!! I tell her what are you doing and she replied "What? I like this it doesn't give me errors like the other one."

My wife is a complete computer illiterate so this speaks volumes on Mozilla. Well I decided to test my laptop to see what was really wrong with it and loaded 9.04 CD no hdd and it loaded fine hooked up to a external monitor. I then put in the hdd and installed 9.04 on the laptop and use it as a desktop until I get the LCD replaced. Well my wife has now told me that she wants Ubuntu on the other laptop. I told her I would not do that yet as she needs as well as I need to learn more way more bfore we are completely free of windows. I was suprised.

I think what did it was when she saw me using the old laptop and it was quiet and her laptop was busy beeping at her with annoying windoze windows alerting her to a bunch of BS. Anyone else been able to convert a non-believer over to Ubuntu??

I had the same with my girlfriend. I switched over to Linux and she hated it. Then just from using my computer for small amounts of time on the weekend she decided she didn't mind it so much

Skip to a few years later and she is totally Microsoft free and is Linux support for her friends at uni
