    Hello and Welcome.
Are you referring to the rankings under the user names? Those are just "post count rankings". I don't really consider myself a guru but I have been using Linux for over 10 years, you tend to learn a few things along the way.....being able to remember it all is half the battle. I still learn something new everyday and look forward to learning a whole lot more.

No, not the rankings under the names. I was just wondering how long it took people who have a lot of knowledge of Linux to get that knowledge. Close to being a poll ... I have wondered to myself why there are Trusted Penguin rankings, though.

Trusted Penguins are basically Moderators in training or wingmen to the Mods.
I think most true gurus have been using Linux/Unix and others for 20 years or so and they probably get paid to be so smart.

Ahh, I found it right when you were posting ...
"Trusted Penguins are not moderators, but have been given their special rank because of their extreme helpfulness, in depth answers, and friendly manner towards other members of the forum."

I would like to have a ranking like that, but it would take me a long time ... I haven't been using Linux for all that long.

welcome to the forums, I've been using linux for 2 years now, and will consider myself a noob for 10 more years...the gurus on linux forums; I doubt there is a question about linux that any of them cannot answer, sometimes it's more a question of the person posting understanding the answer, so far I have gotten every bit of information I ever needed off these forums.

I have been using linux for ~10 years and do not consider myself a guru by any means.

I am just someone who tries to help others learn what I have learned.

Linux changes daily so I think it's not the knowledge anyone has today that makes them a so-called Linux guru, but more their ability to quickly find and implement the solutions to any issues that might present themselves.

    Just my own opinion, though.

I started out knowing absolutely nothing about Linux a few years ago and I still remember most of it

Which is to say still learning new stuff every day!!

My new blog. It's probably not as good as I think it is.
