which free email addy to use ?
I have had a yahoo email addy for abuot 2 years, that i use mostly when i travel, but now all the sudden they want a " cell pone number" to keep me "SAFE"..well I don't want yahoo, or any other company keeping me safe, by giving my phone number to every telemarketer on earth, to call me during dinner, or worse. I have a gmail addy also, but it seems kind of flaky, I some times wonder if I'm getting certain mail there, any suggestions for a free email addy that I can just use, without any non-sense ? thanks

I use yahoo mail myself, which I will give to any one and they have pretty good spam filters too. But I have other email accounts that I only give to certain people to keep the spam from getting into my mailbox.

I used HotMail way back when, but dumped it years ago when it (in my opinion) quickly became the biggest spam magnet the world has ever known. Went to OperaMail from there, and it was good, but it finally became too slow to use. Opened up a Yahoo mail account and right away saw that they wanted to replace HotMail as the biggest spam magnet ever, so I then started using my gMail accounts that I had signed up for years ago, but had never used.
I'm pretty happy with gMail so far, but do always make certain to fully log out after using it for privacy reasons.oz

I would have to recomend gMail. I created my account back when you had to be invited to use it and never looked back. It's easy to use, good custom filters and spam filter. Over all my favorite.

I would like to give lavabit a spin, but unfortunately they aren't taking on any new accounts right now.

Some of those I used to use doesn't exist any more.
But gmx, web.de, are excellent
and I use also gmail.com (google mail) - it is said to be less secure but it is really big (for many, many mails) and it works fine - I don't have secrets - I don't care if there might be a protocoling that computerophil has contact to many linux-pages.

I've tried GMX Mail a few times but they've had lots of server issues each time that I've tried them. The slow speeds and intermittent server hangs were bad enough that I can't bring myself to depend on them. I stopped using Opera Mail for those same reasons, and others.

Add me to the gmail list. It has tons of storage, the spam filter is excellent and it has a host of other utilities. Also, you can connect via IMAP or POP3 which a lot of free mail services don't offer. Add the googletalk jabber chat and googleapps all coming under the same package and I'd say it's a good deal.
Also, of all I've used it has the least amount of eyesore adverts on its page which is good.
