    License for computer service/sales?

I'm trying make money offering onsite computer repair services to my local community, as well as selling used computers that I don't use anymore or are donated to me. I was recently informed that I need some kind of BEAR (Bureau of Electronic and Appliance Repair) license as well as a reseller's license. Does anyone have advice?

You know, I really can't figure out where CA gets the inspiration for it's laws. This is beauracratic micromanagement for the sake of money at best, A nearly $200 license that says what? Not that you know anything, there's no educational requirements... just that you're willing to put out for your reps I guess.

CA has other odd laws too that could be a topic all by itself... all I can say is I'm glad I don't live there.

$200 isn't bad, compared to an obscure Texas law that (according to some interpretations) requires all computer repair technicians to become licensed Private Investigators, which can take several years and several thousand dollars.

To the original poster, if you don't have an A+ Computer Repair certification, you might consider getting one. It's not hard to get (I'm told) and it will give your future customers peace of mind.
