Are we talking about the same Microsoft?

    I stumbled upon this:

Microsoft stuns Linux world, submits source code for kernel

In my world of logic, it doesn't make sense that Microsoft, that utterly hates GPL and Linux, now starts contributing, so: "Are we talking about the same Microsoft?"

Maybe it is a big deal. I personally just don't see why I should run Linux on W2008.

Probably that's the trial version of the source code.

I think Microsoft are finally starting to realise that Linux is here to stay, particularly in the Enterprise where technology like this is used most. This is an attempt to get their foot in the door with virtual servers.

Their next patch will be to the wine project to make it compatible with various viruses and worms

My new blog. It's probably not as good as I think it is.

Definitely. Have you seen MS has started advertising? Probably their outlook is rather dim.

Makes good business sense for them. They can still sell Windows Server to their established customers and claim compatibility with "that Linux thing everyone's talking about." Here's hoping their business interests push them to release more source code in the future.

I just think they are indeed trying to get some market share with their virtualisation, and take on VMware. I guess though VMware is here to stay.
