Dogs and blogs
While walking my dog the other day, I suddenly realised that dogs have been blogging for thousands of years and we have only just caught up with them. When a dog lifts his leg on a lamp-post or wall, he is starting a blog, and every dog that passes by will read it and, if he likes, will post his comments. Of course the content of these posts is only personal information: "I am male, dominant, and stand 18 inches off the ground. Anyone who has met me will recognise my personal scent and know that Kilroy was here."
But then most of the people who post to blogs don't want to say much more than that. They aren't carrying on a conversation, which is a distinctively human activity; they're just registering a presence. They don't seem to notice or care that what they have just posted duplicates two dozen other posts and was decisively refuted by a post three pages back. It's the metaphorical equivalent of scent-marking with urine.
If Roger could operate a keyboard, I think he'd be quite at home on the Internet."I'm just a little old lady; don't try to dazzle me with jargon!"

Nice observation there Hazel. I guess my little terrier mix Popeye finds some really interesting blogs cuz he will sniff for a few minutes before posting his comments.
