A Driving Quiz!!
I grew up in Boston Massachusetts where I learned how to drive a car, truck, and bus. Boston drivers, on average, either do not know where they are going or they do not know how to get there. They will change lanes without looking or make right hand turns from the left lane.
New York drivers are all speeding unless they are in bumper to bumper traffic. New York cab drivers are just terrible. At any rate here is a little quiz:

I think some of your drivers have moved down here. Twenty years ago this was about the friendliest place in the country for motoring. Now, in recent weeks, I've actually pondered homicide as a solution. (*Take a deep breath*) Well, that's not cool. So now I leave about a half hour earlier just so I can avoid the idiots parade. Works for me.

Massachusetts residents actually have self proclaimed having the worst drivers in America. This isn't lost on Insurance companies who usually back up their decisions with statistics. I've seen commercials for a few of those discount auto insurance carriers, but in the fine print, there are two states they don't insure: Massachusetts and New Jersey.
What I can't figure is the Bostonians who are actually proud of the title (and proclaim it on national news). Yay!

Arizona used to be pretty good about the roads. Our state builds outwards, not upwards, so it is much less crowded, but we had good roads to support it all ...... the the housing bubble came to our state, and everyone from california moved here ........ Now I live in fear that if I hit my breaks, the car riding my rear bumper is going to plow into me.

Nye. If someone's tailgating me, it obviously means I'm driving too fast.

My memory is old and breaking up but I vividly remember one very strange sight. I was driving a truck on route 128 near the exit ramp for route 93. Being in the truck I was seated above the traffic and I saw two cars actually bumping into each other to be first to get onto the ramp. I did not see which one of them " won " because I drove past these two lunatics.
To try and stem the " accident claims " in Massachusetts the state adopted a a " no fault " insurance system where everyone has to file claims against there own insurance company for damage to their own cars. If you filed claims the cost of your insurance would go up. Thus " fender bender's " might no go reported at all.
I also remember that in Massachusetts all accidents at traffic lights have to be resolved in court because someone has to be at fault. I found this out the hard way when I was the third car going through a green light and a Buick 225 smashed into me so hard my car flew into the air and came down on a chain link fence. One of the round metal fence posts went through my gas tank and was sticking out of my car's trunk. I had just minutes earlier " topped off " my gas tank and it being so full prevented an explosion.
The accident happened at the corner of Ruggles Street and Tremont Street. I told the cops that I was going through the green light and never saw the Buick. The guy driving the Buick said there wasn't any red light and he was right.
I later went back to the intersection and took a number of slide photographs showing that when the light was green for Ruggles Street there wasn't any light showing for Tremont Street. There was a Catholic Church and rectory at that corner and I asked the priest about the light.
He told me that his parish had been notifying the city of Boston for months about that light but no one had come to fix it. I got the priest's information and when I got into court and presented my case and slides to the judge it was open and shut. The city of Boston was clearly at fault for the accident even though the driver of the Buick was speeding.
The Judge got very upset at the City's lawyer who actually questioned the integrity of the Catholic Priest who testified about the frustration he and others endured trying to get the city to repair the light. I had to get my doctor's bills paid by my own insurance company but the City had to pay for my " totaled car " !!Linux registered user # 414321

Yeah, slowing down is always fun to do. I used to have a Toyota tundra that was at 180K miles when I got it, and I would do stuff like that, and speed up to stop people from zipping around me when their lane ends, stuff like that. Now I have a Pontiac GTO, and I'm a little too cautious since my car is worth quite a bit more, and is not as big.
sometimes I think I should get a kia or something to use to piss people off, who cares if the car gets totaled, it's worth nothing anyway.New to the internet, technical forums, or the hacker / open source community??

Well, see, I don't mind if they pass me. If fact, if they're going to drive reckless like, I'd rather have them in front of me anyway.

AH, I thought you were hinting at a break check, not at letting people pass. I have no problem with that, I just don't like people who are RIGHT on my bumper when there is another lane open (it's not even excusable when there isn't, as I never drive under the speed limit.)

No, no brake check; just quietly slow down to maybe 5 under the speed limit or so until they get the message and either back off or pass. Suffice to say that I do not have sufficient insurance to incite me to cause a collision.
