I just love the Internet. I am 65 years old so the skills I need and use are limited. I have not looked through all of this list as yet but I find the concept interesting.

Interesting list. I lack many of the skills on that list and it would be an interesting challenge to try and motivate myself to learn them.

Nice list. There are a few I could learn to do the right way.

Overall, it's a good list but with some errors. I actually knew nearly all of them, but was raised in a conservative family and spent five years in the Boy Scouts (anybody else here remember those merit badges?). Some of the skills are questionable though: Folding a flag? Passing a football? Like brazilians say, they're just there to fill out the sausage :P

First, like some commenters said, the list shouldn't be only for men. Women have no excuse for not knowing, any less than men.

About changing belts in the car: again, posters are right: DON'T Cut the belts. You might need them later.

About Hypothermia: if you use hot water as suggested you will very likely kill the person. Don't believe me? Try this little experiment then: put your hand in the freezer for one minute. Then put it under the faucet using cold water. Feels good, doesn't it? Hypothermia is no different. (still don't believe me? Repeat the experiment, but use hot water this time and revel in the pain. That's what PM is reccomending for hypothermia)

I agree with you for the most part, some of this stuff is trivial and I think it's mostly geared to Americans under age 25 or so. (I only got up to #50 and thought I could see where it was going)

As for the hypothermia, the trick is to slowly warm the person. I think they could go into shock with either hot or cold treatment, if not administered properly.

I know how to do 90% of what is listed there. What'll stump me is programming a HDTV.

I actually read all of them, and the comments. The second 50 are less useful than the first half-hundred If you think that this would cause problems for young americans, it's much worse here in Brasil. Not only do most men know- at best- a quarter of the skills, most brazilian women know more of them than the men.

About the hypothermia: yeah, that's what I meant. Thanks for expressing it more clearly than I did.

I'm not too worried about that one. At more than 4,000 bucks for the cheapest models here in Brasil, I don't think I'll be needing that skill in the near future

Wow, I have experience in 99% of that list (I never brewed beer). While most of it is mundane, some of it really is good stuff. I think it should be noted that not everything in that list applies to all situations....

e.g. If you have an 80's Volvo standard in the winter, you might find it easier to drive with snows only on the rear and road tires on the front... counters the car's otherwise tendency to fish-tail.
