    LXDE vs. XFCE

I've been playing around with both environments, and I must say, I like them more than KDE and GNOME.
I've been having trouble deciding which to stick with, though. I'm leaning towards Xfce right now, since it seems to run better on my computer with Fedora 11.

But what are all your experiences with both of them? Which do you prefer?

Between the two, I prefer LXDE, primarily because I'm a fan of the Openbox window manager. I primarily run a Openbox as a stand-alone window manager on my laptop and netbook. (Though I switch off with pekwm on the netbook.)

That said, I use XFCE's Terminal, and its file manager, Thunar, almost exclusively. I don't care for pcmanfm so much and I love Thunar's custom actions configuration. I don't have any particular reason to prefer Terminal to LXTerminal, except that I like the simplicity of the name. The only LXDE app I use is lxappearance and I don't use any other XFCE apps.

So I guess my answer is really, I like a combination of both.

EDIT: It just dawned on me that I also use xfce4-power-manager. And I guess I'll add that part of what I like about openbox is the power of window matching and keybindings in the rc.xml file.

I've run Gnome, KDE, Xfce, and LXDE many times, but the latter two usually end up leaving me feeling like they are somewhat incomplete and not as well polished, but to answer the question more directly, I currently prefer Xfce over LXDE, although LXDE will likely get better as it matures.

I haven't tried Xfce yet, but LXDE is pretty and simple, which is just what I prefer. I'm told that it's leaner and faster than Xfce too, but I don't speak with experience on that.

I also have learned that the most current Ubuntu (Jaunty Jackalope, 9.04) has continuing issues with LXDE. But earlier versions don't, and neither do most non-Ubuntu distros. My friend is playing with a brand new LXDE edition of PCLinuxOS which he says is flawless and has none of the bugs that have hindered the Jaunty-based LXDE flavors.

You might want to try out Mandriva, as well, which is what PCLinuxOS is based on. In my opinion, one of the nicest looking out-of-the-box LXDE experiences out there.

Such its the beauty of Linux. When I used Openbox I use it with xfpanel and lxappearance to set the theme/icons
