1 Million Linux Users - possible?
Hi,
Two days ago I found this ( 1-million-tux.linux-befehle.org/indexen.php ) project. It basically trying to find 1'000'000 Linux users around the world.
If you know Linux / Open Source, and are proud of it, then go over and register.
Cheers,
Sven

Welcome to the forums!

There already is a Linux user counter that has been running since 1993, so it has a 16-year head start on the one that you posted above, and it counts both Linux users and Linux machines:
Linux Counter: Home Page
Information regarding The Linux Counter Project can be found here:

Thanks for welcome!
I know the Linux Counter too, but it seems 1 Million Tux isn't a counter. On the start page you find the following text:
"This is not a counting page, that means that we are not interested in finding out what the best distribution or GUI is. We only want to know how many people really like a open source platform with all the flexibility and have fallen in love with it."

999771 registration needed for 1 Mio!
229 registered Users
0 Registration waiting for moderation
46 days runnning the project
4.98 registrations / day
It's also possible to get that stats as igoogle-gadget. I don't know, whether the author wants to copy the linux counter

It seems, they have to count, if they want to find 1 Million User, isn't it?

I think that ozar's point is that The Linux Counter has been attempting to track the number of Linux users for many, many years. If all Linux users registered at one tracker site as opposed to a few at each, the count will be far more accurate. As The Linux Counter already has 130,000 registered users compared to 230 at this new site, it seems that promoting The Linux Counter will more quickly find the number of Linux users.
