I'm not certain, but I really do believe that Microsoft totally despises Linux.

Another thread posted here the other day talked about Windows Hate, but I really think it's probably more the other way around.

HAHA, I think you are right on so many levels it's disturbing. That's why I was alarmed a bit when reading that MS submitted code to the kernel.......I still think it's some sort of trap.

I still think there is room in the world of computers for more than one OS. Hopefully we'll continue far into the future to have some choices.

My new blog. It's probably not as good as I think it is.

The thing that's always amused me about the Microsoft vs. Linux thing, is that Microsoft could so very easily take advantage of Linux and the GPL for its own good. Imagine the amount of devices that Microsoft can manufacture, fine tune, etc., using a Linux kernel, that they could still sell for profit. Instead they choose to use their own proprietary technologies, spending money to develop it, and even longer to test it, etc. It's just so funny to me that they wouldn't take advantage of it at this basic of a level, yet they're still kind of "in bed" with Novell with other things.

They could probably even do that with Windows. Just watch, I bet the next version of Windows, is actually just going to be a Linux distribution. :P

As a .net programmer, I can tell you that thats not true. Non-technical MS users have no idea what Linux is, technical users (like myself) either use it along side or don't give a care.

Now the MS execs are probably another story.

A lot of talk is saying that Windows will be going open source on their next release after 7.

That's who I was referring to. I think the majority of Windows users are pretty much clueless about Windows and Linux.

Nice theory, but then Microsoft wouldn't own the code.

My personal theory about Microsoft programs is that they don't care if they are the best as long they are adequate and they own it. And it can be sold to people. If they have to buy expensive support contracts as well then so much the better!

Linux, BSD, OSX, Solaris and all the others detract from this and that is why Microsoft hate them with a passion.

Ultimately, Microsoft is a corporate company. They focus on profit, on business, on enterprise. Unlike open-source projects like Linux, their priority is making enough money to cover their next release -and- get a substantial paycheck. I really can't blame them for utilizing means of squashing competition - everyone knows that competition fosters innovation as each side tries to come up with what's best. Sure, MS might have the advantage of money, but I feel as if this keeps the Linux community on their toes, haha.
