hello from rural nevada
I tried damn small linux recently, and found linux to be so much faster than XP on my older T30 with 1meg ram. Bought Ubuntu 9.04, wiped hard drive and installed 9.04. Printer, internet, dvd playerI, cd writer/player all working well. Am searching through posts to set up wireless card and I am almost there. Really like Ubuntu and my confidence is growing as I search the forums. Seabjr.

Welcome to the forums! And as you've found, Linux is capable of performing very well on older, slower computers.
Out of curiosity, you say that you "bought" Ubuntu. Did you buy it from Ubuntu directly? Because Ubuntu (and most other distros) is free to download
.
In any event, welcome to the world of Linux, and welcome to the forums!DISTRO=Arch

Thanks, everyone. I did buy a cd off ebay for a couple of dollars. Worked perfectly. When the next update is available, I will download. Seabjr.

Welcome. You'll find a lot of help here and Ubuntu one of the easier-to-use distros.
