Am I right in supposing that this is a sort of beta release for the adventurous? If so, I'll give it a miss until it stabilises.

You're right hazel. It's just a candidate release for those who like to try them out for fixes and bugs. I've always waited until the "Final" comes out. I love to fiddle with CRUX but not that much!

Yep, I upgraded yesterday. Booted today - kernel panic, not syncing! Why is it that the first kernel build never works? Fortunately I still had the old kernel, so I could boot to that, rebuild the new one and it works now.

Just out of curiosity, why do we have these system upgrades? Crux is source-based like Gentoo, so it should be possible to weather even a major library update by simply recompiling applications. That's the way Gentoo does it; why not Crux?

hazel, I had one box running 2.3 and it ran so well I hesitated to do a version update even though 2.4 had come out. I just kept doing prt-get sysups and it would update my system. Eventually, I changed the ports from 2.3 to 2.4, crossed my fingers and updated the whole system. It did and everything ran well! That would be a good question for the CRUX IRC. Next time I'm there I'll see if they can answer that for us.
