    Hey Everybody

Well, it's finally time that I stopped lurking and actually joined Linux Forums. I'll be brief about myself, even though there's plenty to tell.

I've been using Linux since about last June, when I revived an aging Toshiba laptop with a 600Mhz Celeron and only 256MB of RAM using Kubuntu 8.04. Given the boot time over XP could now be measured in so many seconds as opposed to so many minutes, I was hooked. Linux gave me the control I needed both in system configuration and in desktop looks. With this I thankfully passed Vista up (I've only touched that thing but twice and to get rid of it on both accounts) when I chose to make Linux my full-time operating system of choice in late October.

I've got a few specialisms, programming in C++, Java, JavaScript, XHTML, CSS and lots more. Linux is the perfect environment for a programmer like myself, as there's nothing quite like command line compilation with g++. Now I'm a Slackware DIY kinda guy. I am involved in an open source project (search SourceForge for "hex editor" and check under THE, 2nd page maybe) and I'm also looking at more projects that I can do to further the cause of Free Software. I'm currently trying to produce a book of cool SVG effects that anyone can make and use, it should be coming out under a CC license soon too. I also have a fondness for Linux Format, one of the best Linux magazines out there.

Well you know enough about me, so I hope I can conversely get to know a lot about everyone else here. I'm pretty technical and I've encountered my fair share of problems, so I hope I can help out some people here too. Of course, if I get any new problems of my own, I won't hesitate to come here first!

Welcome. I use Hex Editor myself, but downloaded THE and will take a look at it.
