my hello
Hi there,
I've been using various shades of Linux for a short, yet never really was satisfied, as it wouldn't recognize my video resolution
. I had spent numerous hours attempting to find someresolution, yet never really coming out and asking for help, (other than to my brother, - he confused me even more), yet checking various sources for possible solutions to no avail.
This morning I actually hit on a solution for the video issues that I had been experiencing
.
I am currently running Debian - 'Lenny', and for the longest time, every shade I attempted to use (suse, redhat, ubuntu, debian, knoppix, etc) they wouldn't recognize my LCD res of 1440x900. I went into my xorg.conf file, changed the Driver line under Section "Device" from it's preconfigured "ati" to vesa, then rebooted, received a not supported message
, used 'alt-ctrl-2' to open a different login, logged in as root, and then changed it using nano back to 'ati', and then rebooted again, at that point, I was able to choose from numerous different video resolutions, (more than those listed in xorg.conf) including that elusive 1440x900 that would never show. (I had already declared it under the section "screen", subsection "display" for each of the depths, with NO success") Not sure if this can or will help anyone else out there, but it can be an alternative. Sometimes it just takes an accident to fix something in the long run.
If I find other problems and accidental solutions, I will surely post them, as they can help numerous individuals.
