    linux saves lives...

...er...um well it saves computers' lives any how. I just realized as I got xubuntu up and running after a catastrophic failure---was getting ::FILE SYSTEM DAMAGED-- messages. well my 2 year anivesery in linux forums is in a few days, and I realized that this comp I just got running again...is the same one that I started linux on back in 07. this thing really has 9 lives...I was just looking back at my notes, I don' t think some people realize the leaps and bounds linux has made in 2 years... back then flash was flakey, my printer was not supported with ubuntu at all, and trying many different drivers didn't work..now flash, and most printers are just there by default... linux is a solid o.S yall

You know this is a very important point. When I hear guys trolling about how Linux will never be able to do anything I get angry. I feel like I arrived late to the party; I started in 2003/2004 and Linux was already 12 years old with some of the GNU tools a lot older. Yet even month by month the changes are huge but we just take them for granted.

I was using Moblin on my netbook for the past fortnight while on holidays. I went to switch to a virtual terminal and I realised I was running kernel-mode-setting which means a flicker free system (and boot). On top of that X was running in user mode meaning it actually ran as my user rather than root. The entire interface is built on clutter so it's OpenGL accelerated. Now forget all of that stuff, that's just this year. Below all of that I have working WiFi, perfect suspend/resume without a glitch and automounting for anything I plug in without permissions difficulty. Even NTFS is a long forgotten issue.

I just realised how far things have come and yet here you are Bigvoo reminding me that Linux hasn't even left behind your old hardware. Congrats on that and also congrats on your forum-anniversary

This stuff really is incredible and I can't see myself switching to anything else

I wish every electronic device that ran on Linux these days would announce that fact as it starts up. Lots of people all around the world would probably be totally amazed if they knew just how often they were using Linux without even knowing it.

To be honest, I think that even I would be amazed and that would mean a shed load of devices running Linux. But how looking at my TV I wonder what system they use to broadcast the channel I'm watching, and what systems they have used to make the show I am watching.
