    A very good read lucky.

I like Slackware. I was always kind of scared of it until I tried it. Do I use it day to day? Heck no! I've been spoilt by the likes of Ubuntu and as a result Slackware takes too much setting up for this lazy geek

Ever since I set my hands on slackware.. I can't see to get away from it. It's great to hear that they plan to keep it the way it is and not try to imitate the bigger distros

Well, that's one way of interpreting it.

I've been trying to install Vector linux on a Toughbook. The root password doesn't seem to work, and it uses lilo, which I haven't played with for years. When I get time, after the weekend, I'll have to boot with Knoppix and see if I can figure it out.
I may try Slackware 12.2 on it, since I have a DVD burned already. I think I'll learn a little more about linux setting Slackware up.

    Hi.

I found that Absolute offers the flavor of Slackware without the effort needed to deal with Slackware it self ... cheers, drl

    Cool, it's a Dutch bloke.

Anyway, I think it would be nice to try slack some time soon, but I am afraid I will spend a little less time with Linux in the coming school year as it is the year of my final exams (wish me luck, even though things are looking good now).

I hope this year won't be too difficult, I am expecting the worst though, then things will always pack out somewhat right.

I am certainly going to look into it, but the first time I have to really customise an install (as I have read is more or less the purpose of slack), will be around Christmas.

Slackware used to be my default distro until I took a liking to the package tool in Arch about 5 years ago. I'd certainly not hesitate to return to Slackware if the need should ever arise.

Cousinlucky... do let us know what you think of it now that you know why you should try it!

Ozar I have disks containing fedora. mint, suse and I think mandriva! I have an HP machine that I do not like with suse 10 and ubuntu 8.04 on it that will have to do for now. When a person does not have any idea of what they are doing with a computer it can get very frustrating.
