System 76 Desktop computers - opinions please!

I was in a store and I was asked about System 76 Desktop computers by a woman who is thinking about buying a new computer and, at the same time, giving up on windows. Her sister introduced her to my website a few months ago so when I see her now she talks about stuff.

At any rate I told her to let me get back to her on that. Do any LF members use a System 76 desktop computer and what do you think of them?? Thanks!!

I seriously considered them when I bought my laptop last year. They're a small company (relatively speaking) but apparently have very good customer service. Here's a few reviews I found.

Thanks for the reply and the links TechieMoe. She is interested in buying a System 76 desktop computer though. I think the $300.00 starting price appealed to her but I think she has heard about the Linux machines that Wal-Mart had sold and what a flop that was.

I do not know a thing about the quality of System 76 desktops, nor do I know what kind of equipment standards a person would need these days.

I would not advise anyone to purchase a HP, Dell, etc. that are on display at the retail outlets because the hardware in them is so cheap.

I cant speak for System 76 but if it helps, I always buy my PCs from a small company (Custom built Linux based computing made simple: EfficientPC.co.uk). I find that quality is better as is the service.

Oh and they are are Stargate fans so that can only bode well. Check out the model names if you want proof

My new blog. It's probably not as good as I think it is.
