PC vs Mac vs Linux I need your help please!!

Ms Karen De Coster is one of my favorite writers ( the woman has spunk )! I recently commented on her website that a PC running Linux is better than a Mac. My reason for stating that is I have relatives using Mac's and their machines need fixing a lot.

I have never used Vista ( thank heavens ) and I have only spent a few minutes on a Mac checking my email. I know a couple of professional photographers who would not think of using anything but a Mac.

I have made a statement but I can not prove it. Ms De Coster's article is linked below and I need the experienced knowledge of LF members to refute her claim if that is possible! Thanks!

    Proof?

I wouldn't worry too much over it because it's all subjective and a matter of personal opinion. Obviously she hasn't proven to you that a Mac is better, so how will you ever prove to her that your choice is better? Even if you should get more people to say that a PC with Linux is better than a Mac, that doesn't make it so.

The word linux does not appear in that article.

The problem is, people confuse the word Windows with PC or even computer. She thinks she's griping about a PC, but she's really griping about Windows. Don't defend Windows.

I encounter the myth that everyone who uses any Linux distro has to be a " Geek " so often that it does irk me, Ozar!!

Computer Geeks do use Linux and so do a lot of other people!

The way that I look at it; if a 65 year old complete computer illiterate, like me, can use Linux than anybody can use Linux!!

I think he was referring to this.

    Ah! Thank you, Mike Tbob.

You know, ten years ago, she would have had a point. But Linux has come a long way while she's had her eyes shut and mind made up. Oh well. Her loss.

    But what does this mean?
...perhaps then I could take up the Linux/computer geek hobby and join you all in Anarcho-LinuxLand.
Anarcho-LinuxLand?? Anarcho share the same root as anarchy? I don't get it.

Oh wait. She writes to get a reaction. She doesn't believe that--she just wants people to become agitated. I think I'll pass just this once.

Lately I kind of like it when people put down linux, I just think " good " one more knucklehead off the linux bus...here's my 2 cents. I started on apple/mac, now the one good thing was back then ( late 80's early 90's the mac guys could run unix shells flawlessly while the p.c guys hard a hard time with that.. ) any how in the mid 90's macs went through a period of poor hardware ( i knew 4 people who had problems with the exact same machines ) so after my $ 2500. power book died , i said that's it and bought a p.c ( which i instantly hated ) and then I heard about linux, and remembered how much i liked running the unix shell back in the day, I used a long dead dell laptop to learn how to install linux, and never looked back. so now I just don't even discuss o.s's with people, I just do my own thing... Thanks for clearing that up, Mike. I don't devote much energy to these things anymore. If someone is going to embrace linux... cool. If they prefer something else... fine. I don't see any point in proselytizing the unwilling and unconvinced. Let them come looking and I'll willingly share what I know. Know what I mean?

As for Ms. De Coster... She smacks of someone who's just a little bit full of themselves, to me. But I could be wrong. After all, I'm just one of those obtuse "linux-heads" that she felt compelled to whine about.

When you encounter that, give them your own "testimony" about how a non-geeky guy like you can use Linux, and send them to my article about non-geeky kids using it effortlessly!
