Good Evening
I stopped by because the email I received to welcome me to this forum suggested that I do so.
I'm new to Linux. I have dedicated an older laptop to the cause of learning little more about computers - including becoming familiar with Linux (as a user). I just finished setting this machine up as a dual boot computer with XP running in one partition and Debian in the other. However, I really have no need for Windows or anything else in that partition and am contemplating the thought of reformatting the entire hard drive and dedicating the machine to learning Debian.
Except for one glitch, the installation of Debian was straight forward - downloaded the i386 iso file for an internet installation, burned it to a cd and then went from there. The one glitch was getting the system to recognize the wireless network card. I think I have the correct firmware file that the installation process requested but it was either looking for something else or was not able to read it from the usb flashdrive. I found one tutorial about fixing this problem but that didn't do it either.
So, as per the request, I do some more searching, reading etc.
Anyway, thanks for having me.
