Curious About Windows Activation
Would any of you happen to know if there are any versions of Windows (XP or later) that don't have to be activated after installation?
I had to install XP for someone earlier today and the fact that it started whining right away to be activated got me to wondering if it's required for all versions, now. I was thinking that at one time, some versions of XP didn't require any activation.
Just curious about it, if any of you should happen to know.
Thanks!

Only the VLP (Volume Licensing Program) releases don't have activation but they require a VLP key. It's worse with 2008/Vista - even corporate installs have to register with a KMS server every so often.

Don't you guys remember the welcome new Vista users received by Microsoft when it was first released?
I remember the last time Dream Linux's activation server went down and invalidated my copy of DL.
Wait a minute.....Aloof linux user #whatever.
I tested off the charts for MENSA. Unfortunately, it was off the wrong end of the chart.
