Software XG on Linux?
It actually is possible!
For you people who actually enjoy the effects of well assembled XG midi files, I just finally found a way... it does require Wine (bleah, but it works!)
The Japanese program MidRadio Player actually functions perfectly under Wine. This program has a built in softsynth (Yamaha SYG20, aka XG Lite), so it'll play your XG midi files at 22KHz 16bit with 32 note polyphony at a clarity that was top of the line in 1997 (It still sounds great to me compared to any other so called solution I've come across).
It is written in Japanese only, so the menuitems will be unreadable if you don't have a Japanese charset font installed under Wine (alot of "?????") or you just plain don't understand Japanese, but that's okay; MidRadio accepts drag-n-dropped files and the basic control buttons are universal standard.
Just thought I'd share this discovery in case anyone here cared.
