By way of introduction...
Hi.
I am a latent geek. I have been using computers since CPM. I am a proud owner of a well-thumbed and re-bound "pink shirt" book. Have been using Debian for about a year now. Love it. Hate windows. I'm 63 years old and still going strong.
Thanks for allowing me to be a part of this community.

Hola!
Welcome to LFO, we're glad to have you and we hope you enjoy your stay here. From the sounds of things, you'll fit right in with us! What is this CPM you speak of? It sounds evil.
I don't have "Pink Shirt" book but I know what you are referring to. I hope I'm still going strong in 21 more years. oh and by the way, I'm not fond of MS products either.

Welcome to the forums jheaton5!
Isn't CP/M not the OS that 86-DOS (informally known as QDOS) was designed after as a sort of clone? And that in turn was bought by a little Seattle company and licensed to IBM under the name MS-DOS?

Thanks, guys.
Yes CP/M pre-dated DOS. Not real sure of the pedigree of DOS. Loved DOS up to version 6. After that everyone switched to windoze and the computer world dumbed down.

Wondering...
The first edition of Peter Norton's Programmers' guide to the PC showed a picture of him wearing a pink shirt. It became known as the pink shirt book. That would have been back in the mid 1980's so pre-historic to you.

Oh and welcome aboard jheaton5!
I do wonder what modern computing would be like if Intergalactic Digital Research had signed IBM's non-disclosure agreement and CP/M was chosen as the OS for the PC. Would it be better or worse? If we hit that bullseye, the rest of the dominoes will fall like a house of cards. Checkmate! (Zapp Brannigan)
My new blog. It's probably not as good as I think it is.
