Another new piece of hardware, another day impressed by Linux

So there I am down at my local Aldi, and I see they have Wacom graphics tablets. I'm so impressed by this, here in the local budget supermarket they have not just own-brand graphics tablets, but Wacom. And fifty euro isn't too far of a stretch I figure, I've wanted one for a long time.

So I bring home my new toy and then it occurs to me that this might not be all fun and games. After all while Wacom is well known this is a budget model that I can't see on their website. Hrmmm. I plugged it in and BAM it works. Not just partially or acceptably but it completely works. I fired up Inkscape and got straight into doodling.

I remember at one point Ubuntu used to come with some entries for these in xorg.conf but that's not the case anymore, so my hat is off to the Linux driver maintainer, everyone working on HAL, udev and hotplug and of course anyone on the distro side who included support out of the box. I am so impressed I think I'll doodle me up something new

Nice! I've often thought it might be fun to play around with one of those, too. Glad to hear it works so easily under Linux.

    Under Ubuntu anyway.

I have a wacom bamboo and I have to re-compile my kernel to get it working in Slackware. I'll no longer be a kernel-compile virgin after the weekend

My new blog. It's probably not as good as I think it is.

My grandpa got his PC from the Aldi (He does video editing and it's all fast enough for him). He promised me that when XP support runs out, he'll be switching to Linux instead of a newer Windows release, as his (proprietary) Video and audio editing tools say on the box (with a penguin next to it) it should work under Linux.

I guess Linux is really growing fast!

I've had mine a while; it worked great and straight out of the box with buntu. I'm going to have to get my hands dirty with Slackware though
