experiences with online purchasing
i exclusively use newegg, but sometimes another site has items that newegg, for whatever reason, does not carry. has anyone had experiences about buying from sources that are not even recognized by the better business bureau? for example, would you consider buying from basoncomputer.com? can you recommend online sources, and why would you choose to buy from them rather than newegg?

I do very little online shopping. I've been ripped off by NewEgg before; they never sent a $500 shipment because they were out-of-stock on two items. They offered replacements, which I accepted, and still the shipment was never sent. I have since moved twice. I don't know if their act is together more now than before, but it's enough of an experience to tell me that I should do as much of my shopping at Best Buy as I can before going online, even of the online deals are better.

I've been buying from NewEgg ever since they came to be and have always had very good experiences with their services. They don't always have the best prices, but they are usually close enough that I'll go ahead and buy from the any way due to the overall quality of their services. Sometimes, I'll buy from ChiefValue (a NewEgg company) if the pricing or shipping is a little better than NewEgg's. All their products seem to come from the same place as Newegg's, and they come in NewEgg shipping boxes.
I've also purchased online from mwave.com and jr.com, but it's rare that I buy from there.
For local retail products, I've started liking Best Buy much better since they stopped doing the mail in rebates, but they are 40 miles away so I don't get there all that often.oz

I am the same way with Newegg. I buy all my computer parts there simply for their customer service. Most of the time their prices are close enough.
Now, for everything else, I use Amazon.com. I buy my jeans from oldnavy.com, and I buy my shoes from Zappos.com. I get some of my T-shirts from threadless.com, but most of them are cheap ones I find locally. I really don't like B&M stores. I guess the only thing I don't buy online is groceries, and that is only because our local grocery stores won't deliver and don't have websites, haha.

I purchase most of my online computer gear from buy.com. Their prices are good, most stuff has free shipping, and generally stuff arrives in 2-3 days even with free shipping. They also do a good job of keeping your purchase history, so if you want to reorder something, you can go back to the original order and it links directly back to the product page.
I also use supermediastore.com for ink and blank CDs or DVDs as well as flash drives. I've never had any problems with them, and once when an SD flash card broke (defective plastic carrier), they shipped out the replacement immediately without any argument at all.Sometimes, real fast is almost as good as real time.
Just remember, Semper Gumbi - always be flexible!
