Fedora Core

I downloaded fedora Core onto my hard drive and then I extracted it to a file on my hard drive. After I did this I copied the file to a cd and then tried to load it onto my secondary hard drive. When I started my computer up it would not read the cd. What have I done wrong and what can I do to get Fedora on my computer. I have heard a lot of good about Linux and I am so upset with all the crashes from Microsft I want to try Linux and hopefully find it useful and be able to learn it well that I can get rid of my windows. Any suggestions and help will be greatly appreciated.

Try this

whlie rebooting your system, go into the BIOS settings.
You can enter in there by pressing Del Key OR F10 OR F2 while booting(Actually depends on your Bios type). Y0U SHOULD be able to see the correct key when you start your PC.

go in there and find the place for boot device priority, chane the priority such that your ROM is on top then your HDD.........

now exit saving changes and reboot the PC while the CD in the ROM

this will work

Fedora

Thank you for your acknowledgement to my question. I do have my system set up so that it will boot from my cd rom but I still can't get the rom to read the disk. I think I have not loaded the program correctly or there is a boot part missing from the CD. is there a way I can find out why the cd is not loading or if I have missed an important part of the file. I downloaded it from Linux web sight but it does talk about an md5rn file and I am not sure aboout this one. The file I downloaded was the CD file.

Did you specially burn it as an ISO? If you just copy a file onto a CD, it's not bootable. It has to be done specially as an ISO.

Loading Fedora

I have loaded the Fedora program on a CD as an Iso format and went to restart my computer using the CD rom as a bootup and it will still not load from the CD. I don't think I am that crazy but I still cannot get this working right and I want to. I am jusyt not sure if I have missed anything or not.

Does it completely ignore the CD, start the installation and then hang, or what?

Well, from what I gather, you put the .iso onto the cd but you did not burn the .iso's image onto the cd.

In order to acheive this you must use a cd burning program capable of it. I recommend the newest version of Nero Burning rom. You can get a fully functional free demo from http://www.nero.com/en/631934351031098.php.

A guide on how to burn with nero can be found here. Hit ctrl+f and paste "Use the following instructions for newer versions of Nero ( Contributed by Anthony P. )" (without the quotes) into the dialog to find the correct section.

I hope this helped. If not, you may need to burn a smaller boot image to a floopy disk in order to start the installation process.

FEDORA

Thank you all for your help. I got it on CD and installed. Now I have some other issues to programs and such but will post them in a different form since I don't want to be confusing. Again thank you all for your support.
