Interesting item on the news today
There was an item today on the BBC News about Windows 7. Their business correspondent, Rory Cellan-Jones, said openly that Vista had been a public relations disaster for Microsoft and that many people who had gone back to XP would be very reluctant to pay for yet another upgrade that might go wrong. He then let slip that he used Windows at work but "other systems" at home.
Somehow I think that if he were a Mac user, he would have said "I use Windows at work but I have a Mac at home." That's how Mac users think of themselves - as users of a special kind of computer rather than of a particular OS. So I think he probably uses Linux but is shy about saying so.
He did mention that, for fans of free software, there is a new release of Ubuntu and that it is giving Microsoft executives distinctly cold feet."I'm just a little old lady; don't try to dazzle me with jargon!"

Yeah, there was something about windows 7 on the news tonight here too. My response was to send an email to the station's "send us a news tip" address informing them of the forthcoming Ubuntu release.
