| From the point of veiw of the space ship, the light from the headlights would appear to be traveling away from you at the speed of light (thats double the speed of light, because you would add your speed, to the speed of light), however, due to Einstein's theory of relativity, from the light's point of veiw, it would appear to be moving at the regular speed of light (as opposed to twice the speed of light in the previous example), which is 300,000 meters per second. Or maybe the light would just build up in your headlights until they exploded! Man I'm such a geek. Fourteen year olds shouldn't read physics books. (Don't even get me started on quantum physics!)

| Well... the _real_ reply is that it would never happen. (current theory says)Objects with mass cannot travel the speed of light, and therefore you couldn't have anything with headlights to turn on.
In theory though, the speed of light is constant, so all viewers would see it as the same speed..... c which i _believe_ means that the light would appear to be travelling c to the people in the car/spaceship, but all others would not see this light at all, as it would be travelling at the same speed as the the car/spaceship. On the other hand, i'm not positive about the fact that the people in the car/ship would see it either because the light might be considered outside the inertial frame of reference.... A flashlight inside, on the other hand i'm almost certain would be visible.
The classic example of why nothing can travel faster than the speed of light is this:
Suppose you are in a ship travelling faster than the speed of light, but its dark so you need a flashlight. You turn it on, so the light fills the space in front of you. Now a viewer from outside the ship looks in and he would see the light behind you.
gotta love 20th century physics.... screw Newtonian classical stuff....
