Thanks Ozar.
I'll be lurking quite a bit 'till I get a handle on some of this.

Ok.. First things first
Open a terminal (Applications > Accessories . Terminal) and copy & past this into it.
This installs flash,mp3 codecs and various fonts.Code:sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras

thank you, clickalot
did you run into many hardware issues when you switched over?
- 11-03-2009 #10
no hardware problems at all
I had no hardware difficulties when installing ubuntu in my desktop PC
in fact i started using a bigger screen resolution because ubuntu just deals with it better
- i use an old nvidia 7300
i've installed a new hard disk: also no problem (of course i had to read the how to
also got a new cherry mini keyboard with touchpad included. works great!
(but i still have to configure it better and i don't know the actual touchpad brand...)
