Debian Forums now has newbie section
This is a considerable philosophical shift for that community. A lot of the folk who post there think that specific sections for newbies attract whining incompetent "n00bs" who can't spell, use Google or read man pages. But they now seem to have decided that unfriendliness to novices gets you (and Linux) a bad reputation.
They have started it up with several interesting HOWTO's which are worth reading. You can find it here. I certainly intend to do some lurking there."I'm just a little old lady; don't try to dazzle me with jargon!"

I for one wish they had kept the older format. Now they're hiding their elitist mentality and the true "newb" won't understand that they're dealing with a bunch of pompous asses until someone replies.

I tested off the charts for MENSA. Unfortunately, it was off the wrong end of the chart.

That is good news.
I tried Debian some years ago and i was lost and completely put off...
But i already knew the reputation of Debian as being "purist" and "unfriendly", so i guess i was asking for it
