.DMG files are Apple OS X disk images. They cannot be executed on Linux natively. If you want to play Quicktime files you can download the proper codecs using your distribution's package manager and play them in whatever your default media app is. Which distribution of Linux are you using?

i'm using fedora core 4. I think apple's site said it was only available for mac and windows. Is there a link to a linux download? i'd be using the RPM, but i'm fairly new to this tool that manages the software.

No, there is not a link for Linux. You can't run the Quicktime Player from Apple in Linux without some sort of converter software. It's much less work to install the codecs for viewing Quicktime movie files (MOV) using the package manager. For Fedora you'll be using yum.
