LINUX AND OPEN SOURCE SYSTEMS BEING LEFT NEGLECTED

I believe everyone who is frustrated with the control of commercial companies limiting the open source communities resources should call this company, Clear-wire, and ask them why they are choosing to leave out support for linux. Make the call and let them know what you think. 888.888.3113

we should use our community to make statements to new companies who do not believe we are important. Use your weight to demand what we want.

There is a wimax, wireless internet service provider provides wireless internet service all over the greater Seattle are. (clear, or clear wire) heavily promoting their service in my area, Kenmore WA.

I checked out their website, coverage map, and hardware requirements. Here's what I found. (check out my transcript with customer service at the end of this post)

Their modems DO NOT SUPPORT LINUX, OR ANY OPEN SOURCE OS. I asked if I could connect the modem to a router which would allow me to connect any of my system to the net. Customer service said "NO". Either customer service is not trained to really know, or they are excluding the open source community. Either way it is poor relations to have a lack of interest in helping anyone who is interested in their service, who is not using what they consider "most systems"

Problem #2 I checked my address after looking at the coverage map,their system said coverage was not available at my address, their map said that coverage extended far beyond and surrounded my location.

I decided to ask why service was not available in my area. Without asking where I was located the service rep spit out a generic answer that they didn't have a tower in my area. How do you know if you haven't asked where I am located? So why are they sending me junk mail?

The general attitude that I got from my interaction with this company was that you are not using a system we support, we have nothing her for you.

Beth James: Because we do not have towers in your area as of yet.

Beth James: Not every address in every coverage area can receive a signal.
Beth James: Advanced Tech Support will be able to answer those questions more aptly as well Cameron.
