    Just Wondering

Out of curiosity, what do you do to get your mind moving? For example: Whenever I have to get a project done or think something up on the fly, I'll pull out my trusty Rubik's Cube and start fiddling around with it 'til inspiration hits me with a frying pan.

    What do you do?

Thelonius Monk will get me going a lot of the times, he inspires me or working on something mechanical, fixing something around the house or the car will get me thinking.

I've got my Rubik's Cube on my desk, I'll listen to music, or just look online for inspiration for whatever I'm doing.

I don't have anything now, but when I was a much younger woman, I used to put off programming/scripting jobs until my next period. Laugh if you like but I found that I could think more creatively then than at any other time.

Bright ideas and solutions to problems usually come to me when I'm trying to go to sleep, thereby keeping me from falling asleep!

I (silently) explain the problem to an imaginary someone who knows nothing about what I'm doing. Going through whatever it is in that level of detail usually reveals the solution.

Failing that I do something else for a while.

My new blog. It's probably not as good as I think it is.

When I am seeking inspiration or enlightenment the first thing I do is step away from the computer. I get single minded/one track when I am at the computer and I can't be bothered with things that aren't computer related. I find that the best time for creativity in my world is when I am at work, driving around delivering packages. It's like a little sandbox in the back of my mind where I go to play and I hardly realize I am doing it until I have a terrific idea or something.
I also get really creative when my wife wants to go on a "house cleaning" rampage!
