    How was everyone's Christmas?

I was just wondering how Christmas went for everyone who celebrates it. My wife and I hosted it this year in our new house. It was decidedly more low-key on the gifts front, but there was plenty of food and a good time was had by all.

My wife received a new small TV for the kitchen, and a wall mount for it (which I get the duty of installing), a new winter coat, a maid service visit (from me) and a fancy watch.

I got the men's version of that same fancy watch (fanciest watch I've ever owned), some Xbox 360 games I will enjoy immensely, a Jupiter Jack (which I have yet to try), and money which I used to by RAM for my laptop.

    Hi techiMoe

Long time we've not exchanged phosphors.

    How's yourself?

As to Christmas, it was, for the first time in quite a few years, pretty calm, not many people or family in, we just got to relax.

As to your presents being pretty cool, and apparently a surprise. I do cowboy action shooting and the family chipped in and purchased me a "frock" coat! Really surprised me!

So you a big biggie here! Congrats! You always had good stuff to say at the other forii where we've interacted, and were always considered one of the "good ones"...so again....congrats!

Christmas went fairly well this year. Due to the economy there wasn't many gifts, but we all got something we appreciated. For me, I got the game "Dead Space" and have been scaring myself silly since. My dad got a book that he'd been searching for. Mom got an iPod so she can listen to music on the go. My brother got an eskimo coat for the colder states. (He works for Interstate Trucking) The last gift was to us all as my dog went into labor that day and had three pups.

Anyway, aside from the added workload of taking care of puppies, life goes on the same as always.

I remember playing the demo of Dead Space. Bit too intense for me, I think. I've been playing Dragon Age: Origins all weekend. I think my wife regrets having her mom buy it for me. It's a very addictive game.

I played the demo too and after playing the game, I can safely say that it is nothing like the game. The main problem with the demo is that it doesn't fully grasp what makes the game so great.

I think I'll stop there before I reveal too much, but let's just say that EA finally did something right.

Everyone in the six building apartment complex that I live within woke up Christmas morning without heat or hot water. Needless to say that put a damper on my day.

Went to AZ and visited with my Mom and Lil Sis.

IT WAS GREAT. I said Hi for ya Cuz to MOM. Food was Killer from Cookies to smoked eel. Went to all the Russian and International Food shops in AZ and bought out all the old country foods and ingredients we could find. Smoked Whitefish,Cavier, (you can tell fish was the main entree) plus Veraniki and Smoked Kielbasa plus cookie heaven and cakes were abundant. I ate so much I hurt myself. But I loved all the old home cooking. Not a lot of presents were given or received. This was just a reconnect with family for Christmas. Would have been perfect if Lil Brother coulda made it but he had to work.

New Years I am getting Drunk. Heeee Hawww.

Quite nice. I went to my grandparents, and got 50 Euro for Christmas, and the next day I put up a screen an beamer and played a film, while sitting next to my girlfriend. We have all worked together for Christmas dinner and it was so nice. Needless to say that I loved this Christmas (in contrast to last year, where I was a little depressed because of personal reasons).

I got around to trying out the Jupiter Jack this morning and I must say, for a $10USD gadget it's pretty good. I have no intention of using it for its intended purpose (a speakerphone) since I already get better sound quality out of my Bluetooth headset, but I do intend to use it as a way to hook my iPhone up to my car stereo.

I've had a lot of trouble with FM broadcasters in the past. Usually they either don't work well in my car (since I have the antenna built into the back windshield) or they don't tune to enough channels (since I live in a metro area with tons of stations and very little open frequencies).

The Jupiter Jack has only two frequencies: 99.3 and 101.3. I tried 101.3 and the quality driving around the north side of Houston was okay. Not crystal-clear but not so fuzzy I couldn't understand it. This morning I tried 99.3 and it seems significantly clearer, perhaps because there wasn't as much bleed-over from the surrounding stations.

Is it a life-changing device? No. Is it worth 10 bucks? For me it is. Your mileage may vary, depending on the strength and location of your vehicle's antenna and the saturation of radio frequencies where you live. Considering most FM transmitters for iPods and the like are upwards of $40, you could do much worse than giving it a try.
