My ISP only provides DSL for windows and mac machines despite my continued requests for Linux. FIOS in not available in my apartment building and I would never sign up with time/warner cable even if they wanted to provide me service for free.

My phone company has to provide me with old-age service so I do not pay extra for the hours that I am on-line each and every day.

If I hit the Megamillions jackpot, someday, all of that will change!!

I've been using DSL at home for about 5 years, I've had 3G on my phone for about a year and use it frequently. I'm not counting work here.

Shared wireless on a friends DSL. Cousin Lucky, I found out several years ago that I could use linux on DSL with no problem as long as I had drivers for the network card. (PCMCIA at the time.) I had no support from the telco, but ended up not needing any. At the same time, I was working for a cable company, and as long as they had linux drivers for their network card,. our customers had no problem.

I use DSL at home/office and mobile broadband (Sprint) when on the road. The Sprint mobile broadband has been pretty reliable, though sometimes speed is restricted out in the boondocks. It worked even when on the train between Chicago and Sacramento, except when passing thru "Dark Country" up in the mountains.
Sometimes, real fast is almost as good as real time.

Cable for me. For where I live, it's much better than DSL, as it doesn't cut out at random intervals between 7PM and some time in the morning (something about the apartment building, the provider said).

This is just a crock of steaming hot poop cousinlucky, you don't need support from your ISP for Linux on DSL. All you need is a driver for the network card and uninterrupted connections. They just say they don't support it, meaning they don't know how to help you if you had connectivity issues, that's all. Call and setup DSL for yourself but do not even mention the word "Linux".

My ISP is copper.net and they require that their user " rent " their DSL box which is only good for windows or mac!
