Ubuntu... lovin it!
Hi to everyone here.....
I am a newby to Linux, but I have been using, successfully, Ubuntu for about 6 months... and lovin it! I use the Gnome front end which I have found is very stable, clear and if using compiz adds some excellent desktop enhancements.
I have also tried Linux Mint and Kubuntu (however I found the KDE Plasma environment could at times be glitchy)
In the past I was an avid MS Windows fan, often defending the MS Windows product because of its development and features. However over the years, much like others, I have come across issue after issue... and for a purchased product you expect the problems to be ironed out prior to release, but this is not so.
Plus you soon realise where microsoft gets its ideas from... Linux!
When I look back over the years, and count up the hours spent, not productively, but simply trying to get windows to function better... well my life is worth more than wasting it over microsoft!
Anyway when I discovered Ubuntu and the whole Linux community, the choice and support I was amazed! A real alternative that opens up the whole PC experience to everyone.
I have now spread the word and have converted friends and family over to this and other distributions, it simply works... and if it doesn't there is a myriad of help..
I think in the years to come Linux will be more main stream, much like MS Windows, a household name. Apple Mac and Google will change the way the average user looks at the PC and other distros are gaining strength too.
I am not a programmer, but have learnt a thing or two about Debian based systems, but I love to test the different Distros....
I hope I can contribute and help pushing Linux forward....
