There's a few people who are not liking this decision, mostly due to the whole Yahoo = Bing = Microsoft thing.
Here's the announcement by the devs:

If they have somehow found a way to get money by signing this deal with Yahoo, more power to them (I'd think this is a siller move on Yahoo's part, what with the whole slowly decaying into bankruptcy thing). Because everyone automatically uses Google though, I suspect we'll see a lot more "How do I change my Firefox search engine to Google" posts, though.

A bit of competition never hurts.
Let's hope the two companies overbid each other until the revenue share is ridicules high

I think that Yahoo is a dying thing. They are withdrawing from different areas of the internet. They have been beaten to death by Google. It would be a pity for my yahoo's mail account, although I have redirected all the important incoming mails to other servers. Useless move from Ubuntu's part.

I'll probably stick to Google, simply because I want my home page on the screen, about 3 seconds before I even decided to start the browser, and Google is still the fastest, with its minimalistic home page.

Like everything else in the world, it's all about money in the end, but I'm not overly concerned with which search engine they use as the default as long as users will still be able to change it to one of their own choice.

As long s there is freedom of choice, I'm not bothered, but I'll stick with Google for sure.

Same here. One of the first things I always do when opening a new browser on a fresh install is to change my search engine settings. Even when the default search engine was Google, I still had to add IMDB, Wikipedia and Merriam-Webster and delete the Yahoo, Ask.com, and Amazon search boxes. This won't change the amount of work I do anyway, and if it helps sustain Ubuntu for a while longer, more power to them.
