    The Apple iPad

    Apple announces the iPad

What do you all think of this little device? To me, the name sounds like a feminine hygiene product and it's about $300 too expensive for a "middle-ground" device I'd actually use. Sure looks pretty though. It reminds me of the PADD devices they carried around on Star Trek: TNG.

It's good to hear they're using an open ePub format for their e-Books on the device though. That's uncharacteristic of Apple.

I'm not an Apple fan and this device will not convert me to one ... I don't own or want to own an iPod or iPhone either - although I have seen both devices I could not see what all the fuss was about. If i want a laptop I will get one (with a reasonable size screen) I have no intention of giving myself a headache trying to read a small screen. I guess I'm not the target market for the product

It is either a big iPhone or a small laptop without a keyboard. Whichever you prefer.

It seems to be designed as an iPhone (using the iPhone OS, apps coming from App Store, etc.), but meant for people to use at home. You could buy a cheap laptop for cheaper than this, and it could do pretty much anything this can.

Personally, I'm not at all excited by it.

It's a small laptop (mini netboot?) with a built in phone? I like some apple products but I think they are going over board with all these gadgets.

Yet another little piece of what I call 'Status Tech'.

    Not impressed.

Seems to me that they have been very lazy and just made a bigger iPhone. Sure it's probably got better hardware but it's going to, given the size.

It has however provided my favorite Apple based joke so far from someone on Twitter:

Apple's iPad name not the first choice for women. Period.
