    I don't know much ... actually I don't know anything about Linux system admin! I have done a little system admin in the past - I approach things on the basis many people ... including people with bad motives know much more than I do. Always backup user data ... always backup user data! Its really bad having to tell someone a project they have been working on for the past few months/weeks/days/hours has gone because you made a mistake ...
    I'm sure you will pick up lots of useful tips by searching the forums and the net ... but make sure you know what commands mean before you type them - after all you are the system admin ... reminder from sudo with great power comes great responsibility!

    Though I worked in Linux , I'm not an admin ...Can you be more specific ,about your Linux role (something like managing webserver or dbservers or networking etc ) and also there plenty highly skilled here, Better close this thread and create a thread with appropriate titles like "Skills needed for mysql/apache admin" or something ...I'm sure you will get lot of suggestions and opinions.
