    Hello

My name is Joe I live in central ohio.

My vista laptop died and i lost the rescue disk, and being it was old anyways I decided to buy a new machine. In the meantime I slapped in a new hard drive and i will install Fedora 12. I chose Fedora because a few years back when i first got into Linux i had the most success with it.

To be honest my computer knowledge is a bit dated 4 years ago i was building my own machine, but when i bought this laptop i just kept it. Now that i will be getting a new desktop i think the lap top will live out the rest of it days teaching me linux and downloading my torrents. Seem like a good safe place to stick files till i can get a
and to virus scanning them and organizing.

On a scale of 1-10 of computers knowledge 1 being Paris Hilton and 10 being a kung fu master who can write code in binary I am a solid 3.5 maybe 4.

I have a bb storm and if i could figure a way to get the bb desktop manager to work inside linux I'd be good with that, open office, and a good mail client.

This linux thing is a hoot and rite up my alley, I love taking crap apart and changing it to how i want it.

    Cheers

    Joe

Thanks got Fedora 12 installed on the lap top. I went with the 64 bit version. Also got a new desktop. It's got an AMD Athlon X2 2.6 ggz and 6 gigs of PC2200 and a screen bigger than my old TV. So far windows 7 is light years ahead of Vista, both visually and functionally. Now I need to get cracking on the Linux box.

I think I'll start with learning how to install apps.

Open Office, a good media player and figure a way to get blackberry desktop manager to work.

I told the faience that I want all the online banking and such done on the lap top. I will use the Linux version of Mozilla because she is used to that on the windows machines. I'm off to get some Linux apps downloaded as the wireless doesn't work any more and I don't feel like running another lan cable so for now it will have to get downloaded and transferred over.
